Religious Culture and Ethics
Ayลe Yazฤฑcฤฑ
๐ฏ What Will We Learn in This Unit?
The Perfect Order of the Universe
The Existence and Oneness of Allah
The Beautiful Names of Allah (al-Asma al-Husna)
Learning a Sura: Surah al-Ikhlas
๐ The Perfect Order of the Universe (1/2)
The universe is the totality of beings comprising the world we live on along with all the stars and planets; it is also called the cosmos.
Human beings are distinguished from other living things by having reason; they observe, think about, and question their surroundings.
The measured and balanced structure of the human body contains clues to the order in the universe.
๐ค DID YOU KNOW?
Al-Asma al-Husna are Allah's 99 beautiful names; each one describes a different attribute of Him.
๐ The Perfect Order of the Universe (2/2)
Organs such as the eyes, ears, and nose were created according to human needs.
Snow that falls in winter protects the soil and increases groundwater; the rising heat of summer helps crops ripen.
None of this is coincidence; everything occurs within a perfect order.
โ COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS
โ Some people think Allah's existence is accepted only because religious books say so.
โ The flawless order in the universe (the orbits of planets, the harmony of living things) also points to Allah's existence through reason.
๐ The Existence and Oneness of Allah (1/2)
No being can exist by itself or by coincidence.
Just as every book has an author and every painting has a painter, the perfect order in the universe also has a creator: Allah.
Believing that Allah is one and only, without equal or likeness, and worshipping Him alone without associating anything with Him, is called tawhid (belief in Allah's oneness).
๐ A REAL-LIFE EXAMPLE
A flower sprouting from a seed and growing in a set order is a reflection of Allah's names al-Alim (the All-Knowing) and al-Qadir (the All-Powerful) that can be observed in daily life.
๐ The Existence and Oneness of Allah (2/2)
Tawhid is one of the fundamental articles of faith in Islam and the essence of the religion.
Believing in Allah while also accepting other beings as deities is called shirk (associating partners with Allah).
๐ญ THINK AND ANSWER
Which order that you see in the universe reminds you most of Allah's existence?
๐ The Beautiful Names of Allah (al-Asma al-Husna)
Al-Asma al-Husna means "the most beautiful names" in Arabic; they are Allah's names describing His power, perfection, and uniqueness.
The names ar-Rahman and ar-Rahim appear together in the phrase "Bismillahirrahmanirrahim" (the Basmala), which we use often in daily life.
๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ง DOING THIS WITH MY FAMILY
Watch the sky with your family one evening and talk about the perfection in the order of the stars and planets.

Verse: "Had there been within the heavens and earth gods besides Allah, they both would have been ruined..." (Surah Al-Anbiya, verse 22) โ "Indeed, all things We created with predestined measure." (Surah Al-Qamar, verse 49)

As-Sami โ The All-Hearing.
Al-Basir โ The All-Seeing.
Al-Qadir โ The One who has power over all things; whose power is infinite.
