🎯 What Will We Learn in This Unit?
- A Guide for Humanity: The Prophet
- The Message the Prophets Conveyed: Revelation
- Divine Books
- Learning a Surah: Surah al-Falaq
📌 A Guide for Humanity: The Prophet (1/3)
- The word "peygamber" (prophet) is of Persian origin and means "one who brings news."
- As a term, it refers to "people charged with making known to humanity Allah's commands, prohibitions, and counsel."
- The most important quality of the prophets is that they receive revelation from Allah.
📌 A Guide for Humanity: The Prophet (2/3)
- In the Qur'an, the terms resul (messenger) and nebi (bearer of news) are used for the prophets; the related terms risalet (prophetic mission) and nübüvvet (prophethood), derived from these, also express the office of prophethood.
- Twenty-five prophets are named in the Qur'an. The first prophet was Adam, and the last prophet was Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
- The prophets are not limited to those named in the Qur'an.
🤔 DID YOU KNOW?
Twenty-five prophets are named in the Qur'an; however, it is believed that the actual number of prophets sent was far greater.
📌 A Guide for Humanity: The Prophet (3/3)
- An extraordinary event that a prophet displays, with Allah's permission, to prove their prophethood to those who do not believe in them is called a miracle.
- The greatest miracle of the Prophet is the Noble Qur'an.
❌ COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS
❌ Some people think that different "religions" were given to different prophets, and that these are independent of one another.
✅ The basic call of every prophet is the same: belief in the oneness of Allah and worship of Him alone; the differences lie only in the details of practice, according to time and society.
📌 The Message the Prophets Conveyed: Revelation (1/2)
- Revelation is the Almighty Allah making His commands and rulings known to the prophets.
- Allah sent revelation so that people could reach correct knowledge on matters that reason alone cannot resolve.
- The Qur'an contains messages about faith, worship, morality, and social matters; some of these are conveyed through kıssa (instructive narratives about past prophets and nations).
📌 The Message the Prophets Conveyed: Revelation (2/2)
- The basic purpose of revelation is to guide people to the right path and secure their happiness in this world and the next.
- Each prophet is known for a particular quality: Abraham for submission, Jacob and Job for patience,
- Joseph for chastity and forgiveness, Moses for his struggle against oppression, and Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for his beautiful character.
🌍 A REAL-LIFE EXAMPLE
Just as different teachers in a classroom explain the same lesson in different ways while conveying the same core knowledge, the prophets conveyed the same message of the oneness of Allah in different eras.
📌 Divine Books (1/3)
- The divine books are the books Allah sent through His prophets so that people could be happy in this world and the next.
- They reached the prophets through the angel of revelation, Gabriel. The four great divine books are: the Torah (revealed to
- Moses, in Hebrew), the Psalms (revealed to David, in Hebrew), the Gospel (revealed to Jesus, in Aramaic), and the Noble Qur'an (revealed to
💭 THINK AND ANSWER
Why are the shared qualities of the prophets (truthfulness, trustworthiness, intelligence) so important?
📌 Divine Books (2/3)
- Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, in Arabic).
- Because the divine books before the Noble Qur'an were corrupted (altered) over time, they have not survived to the present day in their original form.
- The Noble Qur'an, however, has come down to us unchanged, and it will remain unchanged until the Day of Judgment.
📌 Divine Books (3/3)
- The title given to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), meaning "the last of the prophets," is Hatemülenbiya (Seal of the Prophets).
- He received the first revelation in the Cave of Hira on Mount Nur (the Mountain of Light).
- Allah also sent some prophets pages apart from a full book — these are called suhuf (scrolls): Adam received 10, Seth 50, Idris 30, and Abraham 10 scrolls.
👨👩👧 DOING IT WITH MY FAMILY
Together with your family, discuss which prophet each of the four great books (Torah, Psalms, Gospel, Qur'an) was revealed to, and make a small table.
📌 Learning a Surah: Surah al-Falaq (1/2)
- Surah al-Falaq takes its name from the word "felak," meaning "daybreak, dawn," which appears in the first verse, and it consists of five verses.
- Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nas are together called al-Muawwidhatayn, meaning "the two [surahs] through which refuge is sought in Allah."
- Surah al-Falaq lists certain evils and states that refuge must be sought in the Almighty Allah from them.
✅ EVALUATING MYSELF
- ☐ I can list the shared qualities of the prophets.
- ☐ I know which book was revealed to which prophet.
- ☐ I can explain the concept of revelation.
- ☐ I try to be trustworthy by following the prophets' example.
📌 Learning a Surah: Surah al-Falaq (2/2)
- Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) recommended reciting Surah al-Falaq and Surah an-Nas three times each, morning and evening, as protection against evils.

The key concepts of this unit, as set out in the MEB curriculum, are shown below in connection with the unit theme.
🤔 Did You Know?
Twenty-five prophets are named in the Qur'an; however, it is believed that the actual number of prophets sent was far greater.
2️⃣ The Message the Prophets Conveyed: Revelation
Revelation is the Almighty Allah making His commands and rulings known to the prophets. Allah sent revelation so that people could reach correct knowledge on matters that reason alone cannot resolve. The Qur'an contains messages about faith, worship, morality, and social matters; some of these are conveyed through kıssa (instructive narratives about past prophets and nations).

🔍 Let's Think Deeper
To reflect deeply on what you've learned in this unit, ask yourself these questions:
- How does this knowledge affect my own life?
- Why is this concept important?
- What is its equivalent in everyday life?
⚖️ Moral Dilemma — What Would You Do?
A friend asks you, "If all the prophets brought the same message, why are there so many different religions?" Thinking about revelation and the shared purpose of the prophets, how would you answer them?
